About

Stacey Mak, LCSW specializes in the treatment of children who have been diagnosed with Complex Trauma, Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD), Disinhibited Social Engagement Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Bipolar Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or a combination of the above. Offering support, information, and therapy for families who have experienced complex trauma, relational trauma, attachment disorders, bonding issues, behavioral challenges, difficulties for adoptive and foster families, as well as assessment and diagnosis. Serving children and families in North Florida, Jacksonville, and the surrounding areas. As a prior foster parent, and as an adoptive parent whose child had complex trauma and was diagnosed with Reactive Attachment Disorder, Stacey strives to provide a judgement-free atmosphere for families and can personally attest to healing and success. One of the difficulties in this population is that often times the parents themselves become traumatized, and unless the adults are also seen as identified clients, prognoses are limited. Many of these children have been adopted by loving parents, who are providing a tremendous amount of love and support to their child, but the behaviors persist and a connection seems superficial. Despite these occurrences, a child wants to bond and be loved by the family, but has a difficult time letting down their defense mechanisms due to past trauma. In many cases, this can result in trauma to the parental unit as well. Your family CAN heal! These children are capable of a loving, reciprocal relationship with the proper treatment. To accommodate families dealing with challenges, Stacey's hours are flexible, with daytime and evening appointments. She also makes herself available to clients between sessions via phone or text to provide support or answer questions for no additional charge. Free phone consultation is provided to all prospective clients. Stacey provides an attachment and trauma focused approach tailored to the needs and styles of each family. She uses a variety of assessments to determine a proper diagnosis and treatment approach. Attachment wounds are a prevalent issue among children who have been in foster care, orphanages, or have experienced a trauma or separation from a primary caregiver in the early years of life. There IS hope! Helping your child and family feel safe and secure is the first step to healing.
